About

In 2018 I was ambushed by a devastating Multiple Sclerosis (MS) attack. I was also notified I would be laid off at that same time (not related to my health or performance, just a lovely coincidence). I had only two months left of employment and I couldn't even write my name, let alone do my job.

Technology saved me in my disability. I had been learning about python and automation the year before all of this happened, and as a result, I had built several "bots" that assisted me in my typical workflow.

Now that I was diagnosed with MS and was still in the middle of the debilitating effects of that first attack, I was able to let my bots do all of my work, basically until my time at my company ran out.

Not all jobs can be totally automated, and there was significant luck in the timing of everything for me. However, I believe that anything that can be automated probably should be.

Even more, there are people who deal with disabilities on a daily basis—while mine just comes and goes—and the world just doesn't make it any easier for us. How can we stay competitive when we're already at a disadvantage?
